Now that the transfers seemed to be finished and riders and teams have settled in why not look at the country representation across the World and ProTeams.
It is no surprise that Europe has the most riders across both the men's and women's teams as majority of the races take place in the continent meaning that riders have to travel less. Within the women's peloton 24 countries from Europe are represented while only 23 are represented in the men's. This shows that the different sides of the sport have different strengths.
As well as most of the races taking place is Europe, training camps also take place in countries such as Spain. This is partially due to the mountains as altitude camps are a vital part of training. Riders mainly coming from European countries leads to riders having to travel less to visit family which is a positive for those with kids and pets.
While there are races outside of Europe they tend to have a less rich history and are seen as less difficult. The monuments and grand tours all take place in Europe and only within the countries of Italy, France, Spain and Belgium showing how close the main events are and how there are benefits to riders from western Europe.
Africa has low representation among both pelotons and there are few races across the continent. Overall this makes it hard for riders from the continent to gain contracts in World and ProTeams. Despite this there are still a few riders representing their countries and continent such as Biniam Girmay from Eritrea who made his country proud during the 2024 Tour de France with three stage wins.
