History of INEOS Grenadiers

The team started off as Sky Procycling in 2010 before becoming Team Sky in 2014. The name was changed again due to the change of sponsors in 2019 when they became Team INEOS and then changed again in 2020 to INEOS Grenadiers. The team has riders with contracts until the end of the 2027 season.
2012 has been their most successful season to date with 50 pro victories. Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins and Edvald Boasson Hagen gained 15, 11 and 7 respectively with 10 other rides getting 1-3 wins each across the season. Bradley Wiggins won the yellow jersey at the Tour de France but the team only came 6th at the Giro and 4th at the Vuelta in the same year showing that they were not unstoppable.
In total the team has topped the GC at the Giro 3 times in 2018, 2020 and 2021. Topped the same classification at the Vuelta twice in 2011and 2017. However they have been far more successful at the Tour with 7 yellow jersey wins in 2012, 2013, and from 2015 to 2019.
it seems that repeated wins at the Tour in the short life of the team led to them briefly being seen as a force to be reckoned with and they were ever present in news headlines in 2012 and 2013 despite the confession and trial of Lance Armstrong in January 2013 which was met with shock and outrage that doping had been that central to the Tour and sport as a whole. Still having the top stories and headlines while that story was fresh surely shows how big and influential SKY was at the time.
Since 2020 it seems as if the team have dropped out of the sport but their victories tell a different story. With the new rivalry between the teams of Visma-Lease a Bike and UAE Team Emirates XRG in GC races alongside big names in the classics such as Tadej Pogacar, Mathieu Van Der Poel and Wout Van Aert there has not been that much room for INEOS Grenadiers to show themselves and be the dominant team.
In time trials they have been showing their worth with Filippo Ganna and Joshua Tarling collecting wins and podiums, both winning their respective national TT championships in 2024. IN 2023 the team collected up GC wins in smaller races including the Tour of the Alps and stage wins in the Tour and Vuelta. In 2022 Thomas Pidcock won stage 12 of the Tour de France after a late attack. So while the team may not be as dominant as they once were they are still very much a key part of the pro peloton.
So far this season they have 9 victories and a podium at Milano San Remo alongside a 5th place at Omloop Nieuwsblad. The signing of Caleb Ewan may help the team to win more races and gain more UCI points over the rest of the 2025 season and beyond.
